Are you worried that your puppy will suffer from separation anxiety when you return to work after lockdown or maybe your pup is already showing signs when you leave them alone while running errands?
Don’t worry, help is at hand. We have all the tips and strategies you need for helping to Prevent Puppy Separation Anxiety.
One thing I feel that I need to explain is that it’s not anyone’s fault you’re experiencing this, not yours or your puppy’s.
They’ve been by your side, accompanying you on every adventure for a long time now, especially to them, so it’s perfectly natural for them to find it strange and worrying and display behaviours that are out of character for them.
Dogs can’t tell us how they’re feeling, the only way they know to communicate these feelings of uncertainty is to “act out”.
What we can do is help them understand that they’re safe, loved and that you will return.
Typical signs that your dog or puppy is experiencing separation anxiety include;

It's perfectly normal for your dog to be feeling this way. When we bring them into our lives, we become their entire life and they look to us for reassurance when things feel a little out of the ordinary. We can help them to understand that everything is okay and that whilst the behaviours their displaying are unwanted, our beloved pets are still very much loved and part of the family. My free eBook goes into great detail to show you how to teach your pet to feel less anxious and normalise the feeling of spending time alone.
When it comes to preventing puppy separation there are various strategies we can employ to enable you to have your freedom and spontaneity back whilst not causing any stress to your beloved pup.
One of the most important things to remember, even though many people will suggest this, is to not just leave your dog to cope with their feelings alone, thinking they’ll ‘just get used to it’.
Your dog has these feelings because they’re worried about life when you’re not there.
They worry that you won’t return, that there’s no one to protect them, feed them, they simply do not know the skills they require to cope alone for a little while.
We need to give our dogs coping strategies and teach them it’s ok to be without you.

It takes time for our puppies to be comfortable with being left on their own, even for short periods.
We should never force a puppy to experience isolation before they are ready.
There are some key things we can do to help set our puppies up for success, which you can find in my free eBook in the link just below.
