When life with your dog feels stressful, overwhelming, or uncertain, working with the right dog trainer in Coventry and the surrounding areas, owners can trust makes all the difference. At Carrie’s Canines & Friends, I help puppies and dogs with training, behaviour, and separation anxiety using a kind, tailored, science-led approach that supports both the dog and the human. This page will help you understand how I work, what makes my approach different, and what you can expect if you choose to work with me.

Many owners come to me after trying advice that sounded simple but did not truly help. That is often because dog training is not about forcing a dog to comply or masking the behaviour for a short time. Real progress comes from understanding why the behaviour is happening, what the dog is finding difficult, and how to build better habits step by step.
I work through structured programmes because lasting change takes clarity, consistency, and support. Whether I am helping with puppy foundations, recall, lead walking, barking, reactivity, or home alone struggles, my aim is not to give you a temporary fix. My aim is to help you and your dog build skills that improve daily life for the long term.

One of the biggest differences in my work is that I focus on the whole dog, not just the behaviour that feels frustrating in the moment. If a dog is barking, lunging, pulling, panicking when left, or struggling to settle, there is usually more going on underneath than disobedience. Behaviour is communication, and understanding that changes how we help.
That is why I look at emotional responses as well as practical skills. In behaviour work, I am not simply trying to stop an action. I am helping change how the dog feels, how they cope, and how you respond in a way that supports real progress.
This matters because calmer walks, easier mornings, more confidence at home, and a stronger relationship with your dog do not come from drilling commands alone. They come from training that makes sense to your dog and fits your real life.

I start by getting to know your dog, your home environment, and what you are finding difficult. That gives me a fuller picture of what is happening and what support will be most useful.
From there, I build a plan around your dog’s needs and your lifestyle. That might include home sessions, training walks, practical exercises, management strategies, and support between visits.
I will explain what I am doing and why, so you feel confident continuing the work between sessions. Clients regularly highlight that I help the human understand the process, not just the dog.
Each session builds on the last. We track progress together, adapt where needed, and keep moving towards practical, realistic goals.
My approach is calm, supportive, and non-judgmental. I know how hard it can feel when life with your dog is not going the way you hoped, and I never want owners to feel ashamed for asking for help.
The goal is not a dog who looks obedient for five minutes. The goal is a dog who feels better, copes better, and can live more comfortably in the real world, with an owner who feels far more confident and capable alongside them. Carrie’s own success measures include calmer dogs, more confident owners, and meaningful change in everyday life, not just cleaner-looking behaviour.
That might mean peaceful walks, a puppy who gets the right foundations from the start, a dog who can settle more easily at home, or an owner who finally feels they understand what their dog needs.

I offer in-person support around Coventry and surrounding areas including Leamington Spa and Kenilworth, and online separation anxiety support for owners across the UK.

I use kind, reward-based training methods that focus on helping your dog learn in a positive and supportive way. I look at the reasons behind your dog’s behaviour rather than simply trying to stop what you can see on the surface.
A big part of my approach is also helping you build a stronger relationship and bond with your dog. When your dog feels safe, understood and connected to you, training often becomes clearer and more effective. I’ll show you practical ways to improve communication, build trust and develop skills that work in everyday life.
One-to-one training allows me to focus entirely on you and your dog. Instead of following a generic lesson plan designed to cover a range of breeds, personalities and training needs, I can tailor each session to the challenges you are experiencing and the goals you want to achieve.
This also means we can work at a pace that suits you and your dog, adapt the exercises when needed and practise in the environments where the training will be used, such as your home or local walking areas. You will also have more time to ask questions and receive clear, personalised guidance.
No. Treats are a valuable teaching tool, especially when introducing new skills, but they aren’t intended to be used forever. As your dog’s understanding grows, rewards are gradually varied and reduced, with praise, play and real-life rewards becoming part of everyday training.
This also means we can work at a pace that suits you and your dog, adapt the exercises when needed and practise in the environments where the training will be used, such as your home or local walking areas. You will also have more time to ask questions and receive clear, personalised guidance.
If you want kind, professional support that looks at the whole dog, helps you understand what is going on, and gives you a clear plan for moving forward, I would love to help. My approach is built around real-life results, genuine care for dogs and their owners, and training that feels supportive rather than overwhelming.
